Assassination Classroom is the most banned manga franchise in the United States, but that didn’t stop the anime’s popularity. Based on Yuusei Matsui’s acclaimed Shonen Jump series, TMS Entertainment studio released an anime adaptation in 2015. Since it’s a shorter story compared to most Shonen manga, it reached its conclusion in Season 2 with one of the greatest endings of all time. The anime commemorated its 10th anniversary with new projects, including a brand new film, which hit the Japanese theatres in March this year. Only a few months after the film’s release, Mantan Web confirmed it will be streaming on Prime Video starting August 7th, 2026.
However, the update is only for Japanese viewers, and international fans might have to wait at least a few more months. Since the film wasn’t released in US theatres, the wait seems to be longer than expected. On the bright side, Netflix expanded its library by adding both seasons of the anime this year.
This beloved anime series is based on the Weekly Shonen Jump manga, which was serialized from 2012 to 2016. Only a year before the manga’s conclusion, the anime made its anticipated debut and captured fans’ hearts with its unique plot, intriguing characters, and complex themes blended with comedy and action. The story wraps up in two seasons as it follows a group of misfit middle school students of Class 3-E, who are isolated from the school building because of their behavior or poor grades.
However, only a few higher-ups are aware that their homeroom teacher is a strange, yellow-colored, octopus-like creature called Koro Sensei, who destroyed a part of the moon. The strange creature threatens to do the same to Earth, and the only way to protect the planet is by killing him. Unfortunately, that’s a lot easier said than done because of his unparalleled powers. Not to mention that Koro Sensei is the best teacher they ever got. As the story continues, the horrifying truth behind Koro Sensei’s past comes to light.
Assassination Classroom The Movie: Our Time is serves as the official continuation of the series. Although the original ending seemed fairly conclusive, this new film features an original story not seen in the series before. It’s also going to be adapting the manga stories that never made it into the original TV anime. The film follows the students as they reminisce about their time with Koro Sensei, who helped and supported them throughout their third year.
The students also look back on how much they have changed since then. Once discarded as failures, they were able to pick themselves up again thanks to their homeroom teacher. Every student found their goals in life and became responsible adults, hoping to make their Sensei proud. The film is not only emotional but also nostalgic, paying a heartwarming homage to this beloved series.
