Alan Ritchson, Owen Wilson, and an exotic parakeet race to save a dying girl down under in Brisbane, Australia. Runner has all the elements of a swift, buddy actioner and genuinely surprises with several unexpected twists. There’s a mystery element fueling the narrative that provides just the right amount of intrigue. The violence isn’t excessively bloody and packs a mean punch when Ritchson goes into butt-kicking mode. There are also several banner chase scenes that help to overcome a sizable logic gap in the plot. Audiences looking for solid entertainment with a tinge of heart can’t go wrong here.
