Director Zach Cregger is officially on a cinematic roll. After Barbarian and the Oscar‑winning Weapons, he delivers what is easily the best Resident Evil film in the franchise. Granted, that’s a low bar for this second reboot and eighth overall feature, since the previous iterations were mostly terrible. Resident Evil boasts superb cinematography, a dynamite first act, legitimate scares, and hilariously dark humor throughout.
