After 4 Major Fantasy Franchises, Jamie Campbell Bower Reveals Most “Terrifying” Part of Joining The Rings of Power

Jamie Campbell Bower has already appeared in four major fantasy franchises, and he’s officially joining a fifth with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3. The actor’s involvement in the Prime Video series has been confirmed since February 2025, but this year’s San Diego Comic-Con finally revealed who he’ll be playing: Galadriel’s missing husband, Celeborn. It’s an exciting development for The Lord of the Rings fans hoping to see the Tolkien character and his bond with Galadriel on-screen. It’s an exciting addition to Bower’s filmography as well — though, even with multiple major franchises under his belt, the actor admitted jumping into this one was “terrifying.”

In an SDCC interview with ComicBook‘s Law Sharma, Bower touched on what it’s been like joining The Rings of Power cast. “It’s been amazing,” he said. He then added, “It’s been terrifying.” That combination is probably to be expected, even for an experienced actor like the Stranger Things alum. He elaborated on what made this project, in particular, so daunting. It mostly came to how beloved The Lord of the Rings is. Fortunately, it seems the cast and crew eased his fears a bit:

“You’re joining a project that’s been established, a universe that so many people love. You know, stepping into that, before you even sort of step into it, you build it up so much in your mind. You’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is crazy. Like, okay, there’s a lot of responsibility here.’ But moving into it and getting to meet everyone, and getting to work on this show, I was just welcomed with such love and warmth and open arms and open hearts. And that’s all you can really ask for.”

The high expectations for himself also stemmed from Bower’s own love for the show. “I’ve been a fan of the show for a really long time, you know, since Season 1.” Naturally, that made this a dream come true for him, even after having such an impressive backlist of fantasy roles.

Despite his worries heading into The Rings of Power Season 3, Bower is no stranger to major fantasy titles. He’s previously appeared in two Millennial darlings: Harry Potter and Twilight. He portrayed a young Gellert Grindelwald in the former and Caius, a member of the Volturi, in the latter. Neither were lead roles, but they marked a big start to his acting career. And he went on to blow up further, portraying Jace in The Mortal Instruments movie, and then — most notably — Vecna in Stranger Things.

Bower proved impressive in all these projects, so he likely has nothing to worry about when it comes to The Rings of Power. It seems certain he’ll do a great job playing Celeborn, especially given his own passion for the project. Now, all that’s left is to decide who he’ll audition for in the Game of Thrones franchise. It’s one of the few fantasy universes he hasn’t appeared in yet (but we can totally see him as a Targaryen).
