Barney the Purple Dinosaur as a Horror Movie Is as Unsettling as It Sounds | Review

Imagine if Barney, the lovable children’s show purple dinosaur, who sang, danced, and taught important life lessons, was a sadistic rage monster with terrifying ulterior motives. This is the clever and twisted premise for Buddy, the latest feature from horror filmmaker and Adult Swim staple Casper Kelly. Your skin will crawl as what’s supposed to be wholesome and uplifting kids programming quickly descends into a bloody nightmare. Standout performances from the young leads, a veteran supporting cast of Hollywood stalwarts, and banner cinematography make up for significant pacing lulls. Buddy hits the snooze button a few times, but always brings you back to freaky attention.
