The 1381 English Peasants’ Revolt spawned the legend of a hooded archer and his band of merry men, who stole from the rich and gave to the poor in a guerrilla attempt at wealth redistribution. Writer/director Paul Greengrass and his venerated cast craft an origin story with populist intentions. Their message is unmistakable, but what’s meant to be a warning shot across the super yacht bow of every oligarch, billionaire, and religious despot profiting off socioeconomic inequality instead becomes a drab slog that tests your patience.
