Death Stranding Coming to Disney+ With Brand-New Anime – Watch First Look Trailer

The anime industry keeps expanding with exciting new releases, which is all the more reason why all the streaming platforms are trying their best to house old and new shows and movies as part of their library. While Crunchyroll and HIDIVE are exclusively dedicated to anime, streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video have been investing in anime over the years. Per a press release, Death Stranding: Isolations confirms a Disney+ release with a new teaser. It’s based on Hideo Kojima’s biggest game series, which is all the more reason why this is a huge deal for the platform. Death Stranding has two games within the franchise, but Kojima is planning to expand his post-apocalyptic series.

Last year, he announced that the series will be getting its own anime film in Death Stranding: Mosquito, which hasn’t shared its release window yet. However, Death Stranding: Isolations, the anime series, is closer to its release date as it shares the updates fans have been waiting for. Kojima Productions dropped a new teaser and details for this upcoming anime series coming exclusively on Disney+ at the 10th anniversary event at Azabudai Hills.

The anime will be coming to the platform in 2027, although an exact release date hasn’t been announced yet. While Kojima Productions is producing the series, E&H Production will be helming the video game anime adaptation. If you haven’t already heard of this studio, it was established in 2021 by Sunghoo Park, best known for directing the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen. Before establishing the studio, he also made a name for himself with Zombie Land Saga and The God of High School. While E&H is a fairly new studio, it already has a major project under its belt. Before this, the studio released Ninja Kamui and the Magic Knight Rayearth 2026 reboot. All of the studio’s projects so far are praised for their stunning visuals, even though they are quite underrated.

The upcoming anime series was announced at Disney’s APAC Showcase in November last year, with Hideo Kojima himself saying this about Isolations: “I grew up loving Japanese anime, and it has shaped my worldview. I’ve always been a fan of Disney, since I was small, and I was glad that they showed my documentary on the platform. When they approached me, I decided to work with them.”

The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where souls of the dead manifest in the world and search for the living, but the connection they create triggers a massive explosion, destroying anything in the world. This phenomenon is called Death Stranding, and these events have wiped out almost the entire civilization. The anime will focus on characters much like Norman Reedus’ Sam Porter Bridges, as they attempt to both survive in this brand new world while connecting those who are doing the same.
