Whether it was beautiful and realistic or an illusion to exploit the working class, the basic idea was that "all [people] are created equal" with the right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," and that, through diligent effort, people can become the best versions of themselves and attain contentment and a good, decent life.
