Square Enix has finally announced the release date for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation in a new trailer for the game. Upon its reveal earlier this year, Square Enix had only committed to broadly releasing the final entry in its Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy in spring of 2027. Now, for those who have been waiting for a more well-defined date to circle on the calendar, it has come about.
To end today’s new PlayStation State of Play, a new gameplay trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation was shown off. While the video featured new looks at the story, combat, and characters who will be found in the game, it also most notably concluded by confirming that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will launch on April 8, 2027. Upon its arrival, the game will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC platforms, which is a departure from its initial PlayStation exclusivity for previous entries.

Outside of confirming this release date, Square Enix also went on to share more extensive footage from Final Fantasy 7 Revelation in the State of Play. Specifically, it provided more insight into how the game’s open-world exploration will function. Not only did it give a taste of what players will be able to do outside of the game’s main path, but it showed a handful of different characters in action.
Beyond this presentation, Square Enix also verified today that it would be releasing DLC for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation after the main game. In total, two expansions for FF7 Revelation will be launching, with the first poised to center around Sephiroth. The second DLC is then set to revolve around Vincent and the Turks. Square Enix hasn’t provided extensive details on what these expansions will actually look like, but they’re both said to be launching by Winter 2027 or Spring 2028.
While Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is still more than half a year away, Square Enix has more plans for the Final Fantasy series in the interim. Next month, on October 22nd, the publisher will be releasing Final Fantasy Resonance, which is the first HD-2D entry in the franchise. This installment will have much more in common with the old-school Final Fantasy games that kicked off the series, which means it will be markedly different than what has been shown off in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Still, for those looking to scratch their Final Fantasy itch, Resonance should more than fill the void to close out 2026.
