The new Sense and Sensibility has big shoes to fill, as Jane Austen’s novel is one that’s been adapted numerous times already, including in Ang Lee’s classic 1995 film and the BBC’s 2008 miniseries. Because the book is so frequently brought to the screen, Georgia Oakley’s 2026 adaptation has the unenviable job of setting itself apart from everything that’s come before. It won’t be the most faithful take, nor the most iconic, so it must find a new way of standing apart from the others. And even then, topping the 1995 film proves close to impossible.
