The story of Tony Kiritsis, an Indiana man who, in 1977, kidnapped his mortgage broker Richard O. Hall and held him at gunpoint, has been told before. It was first in a 2022 podcast of the same name with Jon Hamm portraying Fred Heckman, the local radio newsman Tony repeatedly called, and in the 2025 Gus Van Sant film Dead Man’s Wire starring Bill Skarsgård and Dacre Montgomery. MGM+’s American Hostage brings the story to the small screen in an eight-episode run that chronicles the 63-hour ordeal in a way that almost, at times, feels like you’re seeing those more than 2.5 days play out in real-time.
