The most impressive thing about the Insidious franchise, which launched in 2011, is that it’s managed to squeeze out one okay original and four disappointing follow-ups based on some of the thinnest, most uninteresting lore in horror. The Further, the astral plane between the world of the living and the world of actors wearing heavy makeup, is mostly just a vaguely sketched-out canvas where old rules seem to change, and new rules appear out of nowhere based on the filmmakers’ whims.
