A new PS5 game is a “work of art” according to PS5 Pro users, thanks to an exclusive feature of the premium Sony console. As of April, the PlayStation 5 Pro costs $900. This is a lot of money, though not as bad when you consider the standard PS5 is currently $650. Unfortunately, neither console is going to get cheaper. In fact, both are probably going to get more expensive as the memory and storage markets get crazier. Is the PS5 Pro worth the extra $250? That’s debatable, but it’s only on the PS5 Pro that you get PSSR. Unfortunately, not many PS5 games support the feature, but it’s a difference maker for those that do.
To this end, over on the PS5 Pro Reddit page, one of the top new posts is a post about PSSR, or, more specifically, about “PSSR 2“, as the latest update to the feature has become known as. As you may know, recently Ubisoft released Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced on PS5 and other platforms. And while it is a remake of a 2013 PS3 game, it doesn’t look anything like a PS3 game. There are elements of it that are dated — as our official review of the Ubisoft game notes — but the visuals aren’t one of these things. And on PS5 Pro, in particular, it looks great. As owners of the Sony console may know, it is PS5 Pro Enhanced, and these enhancements include PSSR support. The end product is visuals blowing away PlayStation fans.
According to the aforementioned post, “PSSR 2 looks amazing” with the new remake, which for PlayStation fans, in particular, is great because many played the original on PS3, and the original on PS3 had substantial technical problems, at least at launch. This is not the case with the new PS5 remake.
“It’s a work of art, you want to take a pic at every turn,” reads one of the comments on the post. Another comment adds, “I’ve been playing this game nonstop. The naval aspect looks amazing.”
Again, not everything visually looks incredible, like the animations and character models. There is some dating to the game still, but, in particular, the environments and lighting are both top-notch.
As for PSSR, specifically, for those that do not know, it stands for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. And this is an in-house, proprietary piece of Sony tech that uses AI to automatically and smoothly upscale games to 4K. It works really well when implemented properly, and it’s exclusive to the PS5 Pro.
All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment or two letting us know what you think, or join the video game conversations happening over on the ComicBook Forum.
