Review | Milly Alcock Soars in the DCU's Entertaining and Messy Second Movie

Milly Alcock is a triumph in the dark and uneven Supergirl that’s wildly entertaining but likely to divide fans of the comic book source material. Themes of grief, vengeance, and finding your true purpose are explored in an action-packed chase across the galaxy, which the movie’s marketing materials campily describe as an interstellar “pub crawl.” That vacillation between drunken party humor and surprisingly vicious savagery lies at the heart of Supergirl’s biggest problem. It’s telling a deadly serious story while being overly whimsical with the anti-hero Lobo (Jason Momoa) and aw-shucks good-guy Superman (David Corenswet) sprinkled throughout.
