This Sunday, the ninth season of Rick and Morty will come to an end. Throughout the Adult Swim show’s latest season, Rick Sanchez and his grandson have gone through some mind-bending adventures, whether it be Rick memory-wiping himself to enjoy a vacation or Morty dropping into an alien summer camp where the campers were in control. Even with these surreal premises, a new preview for the season nine finale is hinting at a trip that might break Morty’s mind. Throughout the nine seasons of Rick and Morty, the pair have gone on some wild expeditions, but this new clip hints at Morty exploring some soul-changing events.
One of the biggest elements of Rick and Morty throughout its history has been the idea of the multiverse. While the pair will routinely jump to different universes, one of the most shocking examples of reality hopping took place in season one. In the episode “Cronenbergs,” Morty inadvertently destroys his home universe, causing Rick to take them to a reality where their alternate selves had just died. Replacing themselves, Morty and Rick buried their alternate selves and saw Morty coming to grips with this new reality. In the upcoming season finale, it seems that Morty is going to visit the funeral of one of his alternate selves, which is sure to be a harrowing experience. Alongside the Rick and Morty season finale, President Curtis is planning to release its first episode this Sunday, July 26th. While it isn’t entirely sure how the two series will intersect, Adult Swim has already confirmed that Rick’s ninth season finale will lead right into the spin-off featuring the animated Commander-in-Chief. Consisting of ten episodes, President Curtis’s first season will once again see Keith David taking on the role of the Head of State, though it’s looking to focus on a more X-Files/office comedy style for its tale.
As of the writing of this article, a second season for President Curtis has yet to be confirmed, though Rick and Morty has plenty more future adventures to look forward to. Adult Swim has already confirmed the main series to run up until at least season twelve, with the possibility of seasons past that being a serious possibility. On top of the future episodes, Warner Bros has already confirmed that a Rick and Morty movie is in the works that will see the creative team returning to bring the pair to the silver screen. While the grandfather and grandson have already hit the movies thanks to Space Jam: A New Legacy, they have yet to receive their own feature-length film.
