You may never look at a convenience store ATM the same way again after watching director Rebecca Thomas’ minor — and minor key — thriller, Wardriver. The movie combines the atmospheric, neo-noir trappings of Drive with a crime caper like Heat, where we learn the distressing, if admittedly interesting, facts about how cybercriminals ply their trade. Wardriver operates at too low of a boil and its plotting is too conventional to be considered anywhere near those classics. This is a modestly scaled thriller that deserves no more than an appreciative nod, partly because it was shot in just 20 days. Otherwise, this fairly immersive urban crime story will entertain you just fine without compelling you to pull all your money from the bank and stash it under your mattress.
