Why You Need To Watch The Ant-Man Movie

In a summer that started with the highly anticipated blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel’s decision to follow with Ant-Man is an underwhelming head scratcher for most casual moviegoers. While the general public has had years to fall in love with characters like Ironman and Captain America through their solo films, a much lesser known character, even to comic readers, is getting introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the legions that follow it.

While many longtime comic fans are seething for a chance to see the Ant-Man suit step into the spotlight, too many people are questioning why this movie was made, much less why it’s worth seeing. So to those that have their doubts, here are three reasons you must watch this movie.

3 Reasons To watch Ant-Man

  1. Hank Pym. As a founding Avenger, the original Ant-Man, and the scientist behind the suit, Hank Pym (Michael Douglass) will finally get some well-deserved screen time. While this movie’s hero is Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Pym will play a pivotal role just as he has in a number of Marvel comic storylines. While Pym should have been in the last Avengers movie, given that in the comics he invented Ultron, it’s better late than never. Though Ultron was attributed to Tony Starks in the MCU, Pym has other inventions that should play major roles in later films.
  2. Yellowjacket. In the movie, the Yellowjacket suit is a militarized version of the Ant-Man suit, created by former Pym protégé Darren Cross (Corey Stoll). This suit lures another former Pym protégé, Scott Lang, from a career as a thief to a mission of well-intentioned thievery when Lang takes up the Ant-Man mantle so he can steal the Yellowjacket suit and return it to Pym.Based on the trailers, the story culminates in an epic fight between Ant-Man and Yellowjacket. Depending on how the fight ends, Yellowjacket could become a villain, hero, or no body in subsequent Marvel movies.
  3. It Matters. Though the Ant-Man film is smaller in scope than other Marvel movies and doesn’t appear to tie in with any major Avenger characters, it is important to the MCU.Not only does it introduce Ant-Man and Yellowjacket but it introduce Pym Particles, the subatomic particles that allow Ant-Man to decrease and increase in size. These particles open a world of possibilities for subsequent films since they also gave birth to other Pym characters like Giant-Man, Goliath, and Wasp.
